Batman: the Dark Knight
If your son’s birthday is coming up and you want you to prepare a superhero bash to delight his guests, then why not organize a Batman party? There are numerous creative ways to make this event unique and enjoyable. Here are some fun Batman party ideas you can try.

Invitations: Bring Out the Bat Signal

You can purchase ready-made invitations featuring images of Batman and his enemies but since you are up for the challenge like the Dark Knight himself, then you can make your own invites. Homemade invitations also cost less, especially if you’re going to use scrap materials.

Here’s one easy homemade Batman invitation idea: Get some black cardstock paper and cut the bat symbol from it. Write the party details on it using a silver gel pen. Another option is to glue the bat symbol to a red cardboard square. Write the guest’s name on the symbol and the details on the back.

Another more creative invitation you can get is a Bat signal flashlight. Get small, inexpensive round flashlights at a local dollar store and then tape a bat shape on the lens made from black construction paper. Attach a tag to it that contains the party information. Let your birthday boy give the invites to his guests personally.

Be creative when wording your Batman invitations! You can write “The Dark Knight is calling you! Come to his Secret Meeting at ____” or “Gotham City needs our help! Join Batman’s Army At ____”. These will excite the guests and you can be sure they’ll come to your celebration.

Costumes: The Caped Crusader

No Batman party is complete without costumes. Dress up your kid as Batman. You can also tell your guests to don Batman costumes. The boys can be Robin or Batman’s enemies like the Joker, Two-Face, The Penguin and The Riddler. The girls can dress up as Bat Girl, Cat Woman, Poison Ivy or Harle Quinn.

If you think it’s too much of a bother to ask the young guests to come in costumes, you can provide them with the necessary get-up yourself. Cut black Batman and Robin masks from construction paper then give them out for the kids to wear. Add black capes made from simple black squares of fabric. Just tie the two corners together around the child’s neck. When everyone’s dressed up, you’re all set to have fun during the party.

Dark Knight Décor

You can’t throw a Batman party without setting up the right ambiance! Before the big day, plan the decorations you will use for the venue. There are many types of Batman decorations you can use. If you want to keep it simple, you can just hang up Batman movie posters around the place. If you want it to be more exciting, you can dress up the place to look like Gotham City or you can make it look like the Bat Cave.

Here are several other décor ideas you can try out.

  • Make a large Gotham city backdrop, complete with tall skyscrapers, city lights and cars on a busy street. On the sky, draw a large bat signal, as if Commissioner Gordon is calling for Batman’s help.
  • Create a “cave” atmosphere using heavy blankets and chairs. You can even rent large boulders and put them around the place. Just make sure to have child-safe lighting, so the kids won’t get freaked out.

  • Don’t forget the streamers and party balloons! Get black, white and yellow ones for a real Batman feel.
  • Purchase Batman plates, cutlery, table coverings and napkins.

Fun Bat Games

Batman is always busy fighting crime and catching criminals, but since your kids can’t do that, they’ll have to settle for fun games. Try these simple, but enjoyable game ideas that’ll keep them preoccupied and happy throughout the party.

  • jester hat

Beat the Batman - This is a trivia contest everyone will enjoy. When the kids arrive, hand them sheets of paper with Batman-related questions on them. They should answer them (no copying!) and get as much correct answers as they can. At the end of the party, the kid with the most number of correct answers wins a special prize.
  • Follow The Joker – You need a court jester’s hat for this game. Let the children take turns wearing it. The one who dons it becomes the “Joker” and leads the others into fun and mischief.
  • Batman’s Obstacle Course – Let your kids test their superhero skills with this fun game. Create an obstacle course by using typical household items. Use old tires, chairs pillows, hanging ropes and sleeping bags for the course. Sports equipment can also be useful, but be careful with it. The kid who can get through the course with fastest time wins the game.
  • Unlocking the Batmobile – You’ve never seen Batman go anywhere without his trusty Batmobile. This game is just like the popular Pin The Tail On The Donkey. First, you need to make a side-view drawing of the Batmobile. The keyhole and door handle should be large enough to be seen by everyone. Then, prepare a cardboard key, and attach a tape to its back. The object of the game is to pin the key on the keyhole while blindfolded. The kid who pins the key closest to the marked door wins the game.

Bat Food, Anyone?

Even superheroes get famished after a long day of fighting criminals. Your kid and his guests will be tired and hungry too, with all the games and activities you have organized. Make sure you prepare yummy treats for them. Typical party food will do, but if you want to make it more special, here are some food ideas for you.

  • batman cake

Joker’s Gelatin Jigglers – Buy a box of gelatin and prepare jigglers according to the instructions. Once the jelly has set, get a bat-shaped cookie cutter and use it to cut the gelatin into interesting Batman shapes.
  • Batman’s Favorite Sandwich – You can do this for any type of sandwich your kid likes, whether salami, BLT or ham and egg. Prepare the sandwiches, then cut them using the bat-shaped cookie cutter. This is best served with fruits or carrot sticks and dip.
  • Bats in a Blanket – A yummy deviation from the usual pigs in a blanket! First, get some cheese, hotdogs and refrigerator croissants. Cut the cheese into strips and the hot dog, lengthwise. Then, unroll the croissants, stuff with cheese and hot dogs, and roll them again. Bake them until they’re golden-brown. For the finishing touch, add two red cinnamon pieces to look like bat’s eyes.
  • Poison Ivy Punch – It’s a drink that only real superheroes can handle! First, get some plastic ivy from a craft store and cut it in small pieces. Then, prepare some lime juice and pour it in ice trays. Drop a piece of ivy on each cube, and let it freeze overnight. On the day itself, add green food coloring to the kids’ drink (white grape juice, soda and apple juice are great choices) and add an ice cube to each glass before serving.

As the kiddie event draws to a close, there’s one thing you shouldn’t forget: the party favors. You can’t let the guests go home without memorable thank-you gifts! Get goody bags with batman characters printed on them. Put small batman toys and candies in it. You can also include a little “thank-you card “ inside.

To add more entertainment and excitement to the celebration, try these easy, but fun tips. They’ll let your kid and his guests feel as great as their crime-fighting Gotham superhero!
