A superman party deserves a super ambiance. To let your boy and his friends feel that they’re really in the exciting world of Superman, you should prepare the right party decorations to vamp up the place. There are numerous creative ways to spice things up.
- Settle on a color motif for the whole venue. Superman’s colors include red, yellow and blue. If you buy tablecloths, streamers, banners, confetti and balloons, make sure they are a mixture of these hues.
Superman posters on the wall - Record Superman’s theme music and play it throughout the celebration.
- Get images and pictures of Superman. You can download some from the Internet or enlarge some from comic books. Have them laminated and put them around the party spot.
- Put a sign at the entrance of the venue that says “You Are Now Entering Krypton”. Or draw a large Superman emblem and beside it, place “Welcome to ____ Super Birthday Party!”

- Mount signs around the place that say “POW!”, “BAM!”, “BOOM!” or “KABLAM!”, like the ones you see in comic books.
- If your kid has Superman toys and collectibles, put them on the top of the tables as superhero centerpieces.
Superman’s Costume

The kiddie guests can also come in their best superhero costume. They can wear Superman or other superhero costumes, like Superman’s friends from Justice League, including Green Lantern, Flash, Black Canary, Batman and Wonderwoman. Make sure you let them know about the costume dress code by including it in the invitations. To persuade them to come in costume, let them know you’re giving out a special prize to the one wearing the best one.
Some parents feel that burdening the kids with party costumes is too much. If this is so, then you can provide them with simple costume alternatives. Cut red square fabric pieces and secure them around the boys’ necks, for a genuine Superman look. As for the girls, make yellow headbands that look like Wonderwoman’s and give them out before the party starts.
Superman Games

- Pin The “S” On Superman – This is a Superman version of the famous “Pin The Tail On The Donkey” game. First, get a Superman poster showing his entire body. Cut out his chest, the part with the diamond-shaped “S” emblem. Let the kids approach the poster one by one, while blindfolded. The one who pins the “S” closest to Superman’s chest wins the game.
- The Kryptonian Training Course – This game will test the kids’ super abilities. It’s better done outdoors, so it’ll be less messy. Set up various obstacles in the yard that the kids will have to go through like walking across a narrow board, jumping over a pile of leaves or running over old tires. Then divide the kids into two teams. The first team that’s able to go across the course wins the game.
- Lex Luthor On The Loose! - This is also best played outdoors. Pick out a kid to be Superman and another to be Lex Luthor. The rest of the kids can be the citizens. When the signal is given, Lex will try to catch the citizens, while Superman tries to catch him. If the citizens are caught, they must go to an area called “the hostage tank”. To free everyone, Superman must tag Lex. If Lex gets all the citizens first, he wins the game.
- Best Villain Laugh – Have a contest to see who can do the scariest and most wicked villain laugh.
A baby laughing - Saving Metropolis – Hide small villain toys around the place before the party begins. When you’re ready to play the game, tell the kids to go on a “hunt”. For every “evil” toy a kid collects, he or she can trade it for a small prize. Let everyone search the area, until all toys have been collected, and Metropolis is safe and villain-free again.
- Superman Mural-Making – Let the kids express their creative side. Take a wide sheet of butcher paper on a wall, high enough for the kids to reach. Give them paint, markers, colored pens, pencils and other drawing and coloring materials, and let them create a grand superhero mural!
- Superman Filmfest – When the kids get tired from playing games, let them sit around the TV and watch Superman or Justice League cartoons. Blockbuster flicks such as “Superman Returns” are also great.
Super Food

- Super Cookies – You can use any cookie recipe for this. Create a giant dough ball and place it on a baking sheet with vegetable oil. Shape it into the large diamond-shaped Superman emblem and let it bake. When it comes out of the oven, let it cool, then slide onto a foil-covered cardboard. Frost it gold, then add red frosting to outline the diamond and color the S. Serve for everyone to share.
- Superman Jello – Get three packs of Jello mix — a yellow, red and a blue one. Prepare them separately. First, pour the blue Jello into a flat mold container and let cool. Wait until it settles a bit, then pour the yellow Jello over it. Lastly, add the red on top of the yellow Jello. Let the whole mold chill, and then serve at the party.
- Super Sundae – Scoop plain white vanilla ice cream or berry-flavored yogurt into small cups. Then, top them with blueberries, raspberries, sliced strawberries and drizzle with raspberry sauce.
A super cake for the celebrant - Superman Cake – A delicious delight for the birthday boy. Bake a 9 x 13 inch sheet cake. Follow the recipe instructions. Then, using an outline, create Superman’s emblem on top of the cake. Use red and yellow frosting accordingly.
- Super Sipper – Mix cherry juice with orange juice concentrate. Before you serve it, mix in a bottle of carbonated water.
