Decorations to Fall For

The fall season has a very unique color, so you should take cues and inspiration from nature. Decorate your home using reds, browns, honeys and gold shades and use them on your curtains, sofas, tablecloths, napkins and pillowcases. You can use cheerful colors like orange or bright red as an accent to everything. Banners, streamers and balloons should also follow this color theme.

Mother Nature herself can provide your other decorations. Step out to your garden and pick red and golden maple leaves. Wash them, let them dry, and make sure they don’t have any insects. Spray paint them with golds and other fall colors. Arrange these leaves in shallow bowls and put apples, personal pumpkins (the really small ones) and acorns on top of them for beautiful and seasonal centerpieces. If you don’t have time to do this, just use autumn-themed potpourri instead of leaves.

Change your lighting from white light to a warmer yellow light to remind guests of the cooling fall sun. Hang up fruits like grapes or bunches of acorns from your ceiling.

Set up floating candles in clear shallow bowls with water. Scented ones with apple pie, bread or cinnamon scents are great, giving a warm, inviting smell to your fall party.

You can also clear a space for party games in your backyard, living room or garden. Put haystacks around the area, with baskets full of fall produce on them like pumpkins, apples and corn. You can also put up yellow Christmas lights and more banners and streamers.

If you have time, make some autumn-themed serving bowls by hollowing a pumpkin and cleaning it out with water. Once dry, you can use it as a punch bowl or as a serving bowl for drinks and snacks. Smaller pumpkins can also be used to make pumpkin cups. (Learn how to carve a pumpkin)
