Fairytale Princess Party Ideas

Dream Up Magical Invitations
Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty all started out with the words “Once upon a time…” so why not design your invitation to look like a classic storybook? You can even ask your kids to help you out, since it’s easy and fun to do. To make your own invitation, you need the following materials:
- Brown or cinnamon-colored cardboard or construction paper
- Glue gun
- Glue gun stick with glitters
- Sharpies in different colors
- Paste with glitters or sparkle glue
- Sequins

First, fold one letter-sized page to form a card. You’re free to write a book title that will suggest a fairytale story like “You’re invited to a Cinderella Story” or simply “Once Upon a Time” on the cover. After you’ve written this, use a clear sparkle glue that will give the cover an overall shimmer but will not overpower the message. Put sequins following the lettering or use a glue gun with a special glitter glue stick. You can also add little decorations to your invitation as you like. Let it dry for three to four hours.
It’s better not to decorate the inside too much, so the invitees will not have a difficult time reading the details. Just write the party information with different-colored sharpies before coating the inside of your invitation with clear sparkle glue. Don’t forget to ask your guests and their parents to be in their best fairytale prince and princess costumes.
Another design idea is to make your invitation look like a scroll. Simply roll up your invitation tied in a ribbon with the invitation reading like, “Her Royal Highness Requests Your Presence…” or some similar announcement.
Setting the Fairytale

Have a color scheme of pink, white, lavender with accents of silver. This will reflect on your tablecloths, streamers, balloons, banners and utensils. Have the banners look like scrolls that have been unrolled. For centerpieces, you can use flowers, tiny castles, princess dolls or tiaras with a small candle in the middle. Make sure that they are in candle holders to prevent fire hazards.
You can also let the girls have a tea party by using small pots and teacups filled with juice or iced tea that they can pour out themselves and serve to each other. Using plastic wine goblets is a good alternative. These can be bought cheaply from any dollar store. Just make sure that they are non-toxic.

You can have a forest or castle backdrop for your fairytale princess story. You can also rent a long red carpet leading up to a throne with lots of pillows for the special girl to sit on. Rocking horses can serve as the little boys’ loyal steeds when it comes to vanquishing any enemy who comes in the way.
Play popular Disney fairytale princesses songs like Sleeping Beauty’s “Once Upon a Dream,” Snow White’s “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” or the Beauty and the Beast’s theme song.
Gather for a Royal Celebration
Even though the guests are in full fairytale garb, it doesn’t mean they can’t have activities. Here are some less-than-rowdy party games that your guests will still enjoy.
- Introductions. Each of your guests came as a fairytale princess or prince, so have them take a spotlight and introduce themselves briefly and what stories they came from. For example, a girl dressed as Snow White can tell a little bit about Snow White’s story and why she picked that character.
- Take a Waltz. Nothing is more princess-like than to take a spin in the dance floor. Play classic waltzing music, pair up your guests in two, and have them waltz gracefully away. If they get a little bored, you can also play some more upbeat tunes. (Learn how to waltz)
- Storytelling. Gather all the little ones together and have a really animated storytelling time. Have them choose what fairytale princess story they’d like to hear (Why don’t you choose from the Top Ten famous children’s bedtime stories). Don’t forget to do actions and voices. If they want to hear another one, humor them!
- Dress Up. Have an array of boas, plastic bracelets, rings and even shoes ready for the little princesses to add glamor to their costumes. Make sure you have a camera for souvenir photos.
- Tiara Design. Have silver “blank” tiaras at the ready with paste, sequins, art paper and other things that the girls can design their own personal tiaras with.
- Put the Slipper on Cinderella. It’s a theme-appropriate twist to the classic “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” game, only your girls have to take turns trying to put Cinderella’s slipper in the right place.
- Princess Finds the Pea. Hide a pea in one of the balloons and have them look for the pea by sitting on the balloons and popping them.
- Vanquish the Dragon. Have a dragon-shaped pinata and let the princesses be damsels in distress no more! Have a sword-shaped bat to help them vanquish the monster guarding its candied treasures.
- Watch Fairytale Princess Movies. Prepare your DVDs of popular Disney princesses movies like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, but don’t forget other fairytale princess stories like the Princess Bride and Enchanted. Put up soft, comfortable beanie bags where the girls can all use while watching the show.
- Hire Your Own “Fairy”. Ask a magician to perform magic tricks that will surely impress and astonish your guests. If the magician is a female, maybe you can ask her to come as a fairy godmother to all your little princesses.

Food Fit for a Princess
Princesses always have to have a feast right before happy endings. Have these delicious treats at the ready for your royalty’s grumbling tummies.
- Fruit Cup Jello Jigglers. Make your party food menu look more colorful and jewel-like with these fruit cup jello jigglers. Mix in unflavored gelatin, fruit juice and sliced pieces of fruit, these make for a healthy and sweet snack that kids will love. Put the jello jigglers in jewel-shaped moulds to make them look even prettier.
- Pink Lemonade. Pink are many girls’ favorite color, and a pink lemonade will surely fit in with the theme of your party.
- “Poisoned” Caramel Apples. In the original Snow White, the evil stepmother poisoned only half the apple so later on she could fool Snow White in assuring her that the apple wasn’t poisoned by eating the half that wasn’t poisoned. Follow this effect by dipping half an apple into melted caramel.
- Fairytale Princess Cake. Have an unusual fairytale princess cake by having the cake designed to look like a pillow, with a candy “glass” shoe on top.
- Fairytale Princess Sandwiches. Cut out your sandwiches into fun shapes like diamonds, hearts and stars. You can also make it look more whimsical and fairytale-like by using shapes like frogs (from the Frog Prince), apples (from Snow White) and peas (from The Princess and the Pea).
- Diamond Strawberries. Dip strawberries in white chocolate and prop them up for some delicious diamonds.
