Kids Birthday Party Ideas

Is your child’s birthday party just around the corner? Give him the best birthday bash that he’ll remember forever. All his friends should be present in the party so it will be more fun. Relatives can also attend the party, especially if they are bringing little kids.
Things to consider for a kid’s birthday party include the invitations, decorations, games, and food. The trick in preparing a kid’s birthday party is to stick to your target guests: children. While parents can join in the activities a bit, all the activities should keep the children happy and interested so no kid asks his parents to go home. The following kids’ birthday party ideas should make your child’s birthday a memorable one.
Choosing a Theme for the Party

All the preparations for the birthday party should revolve around your chosen theme. Choose a theme that your child likes; for instance, cartoons, comic books, or toys. Boys usually have fun with themes such as racing cars, superheroes and dinosaurs. Girls like themes such as Disney princesses, Dora the Explorer and High School Musical. Ask your child what he or she likes best, then consider if that theme is feasible. If it’s not, ask him or her for more ideas that’ll be easier to do.
Invitations for Your Kid’s Birthday Party
Invitations you send out to guests largely depend on the theme of the party; for instance, if you choose a superhero theme, you can send out invitations with pictures of superheroes on the front. You may consider the gender of the guests, although this is optional. If you do, send out two separate invitations, one with a male superhero on the front, like Batman, and another with a female superhero, like Wonder Woman. Write the details of the invitation on the back, including the venue, date, and what to expect at the party. You can buy birthday party invitations at department stores or make your own by designing them on the computer. Once you’re finished, simply print the invitations and send them out to the guests.

Birthday Party Decorations Kids will Love
All the decorations should fit the theme of the party. If you’re holding the party in a commercial venue, like your child’s favorite fast food restaurant, the fast food decor can be the theme of the party. On the other hand, you need to purchase your own decorations if you’re going to hold it at home or in a remote venue.
The easiest way to find decorations that match your party theme is to search on the Internet. A simple Google search, for example, yields hundreds of thousands of results for “superhero party.” Click these links and browse through the party items that they offer. Buy all the items you want and just wait for the company to deliver them to your home.
You may also shop for party decorations the traditional way, though this may be more difficult if you have to go to different shops to find what you’re looking for. Do your shopping weeks in advance so that you won’t be pressured as your child’s birthday draws nearer.
Fun Games and Activities for Your Kid’s Birthday Party
Children are full of energy, so all your games and activities should require them to move and run around the place. Limit thinking games because children may get bored with them or refuse to participate. Remember to clear the place of any obstructions before starting a game to prevent accidents. The following games and activities will keep the kids happy and enthusiastic:
Musical chairs: Musical chairs is a staple of birthday parties because it’s lively and easy to do. Simply arrange chairs in a circular formation and ask for participants. The number of chairs should be one less than the number of participants. Play a song on your sound system and ask the participants to dance around the chairs as the music plays.
Watch those kids playing their musical chair game.
When the music stops, participants should scramble for a chair to sit on. Since there aren’t enough chairs for everybody, one kid is left standing and leaves the game. The game continues as chairs are removed one by one. The kid who gets the last chair wins the game and gets a prize.
Steal the dragon tail: Ask the children to form chains of about four to five people. Members of each group should hold on to each other’s waists. The kid on the end of a chain tucks a flag or a bandana into his back pocket.
The object of the game is to steal the other teams’ flags or tails while running away from other teams who try to steal yours. Teams that lose their links during the game are disqualified. The last team to keep their tail wins the game and gets a prize. This game is quite physical, so parents should keep a close eye on their children.
Creature charades: This is a variation of the popular game of charades. Write names of creatures on strips of paper and put them in a bowl. Creatures could include vampires, werewolves, dwarfs, and giants. You may also include creatures from popular children’s book like Harry Potter: for example, dementors and Death Eaters.
Divide the children into two or three teams. Each team chooses a member who will act out the words on the strips of paper. Other members in the team try to guess the creature by interpreting the pantomime of the actor. Set a time limit on how long teams can guess a creature. Scores are given to teams who guess the creatures within the time limit. The team who scores the highest wins the game.
Pin the race car: You can change the classic pin the tail game to fit the theme of the party; for example, instead of the typical donkey and tail, you can have driver and race car if you have a race car team. Fix the poster of the driver without the race car on a wall and tell the kids to line up. Blindfold the child in the front and give him the paper cutout of the race car. He then tries to pin the race car on the right spot without seeing the poster. The kid who pins the race car closest to the right spot wins the game.
Watch this movie and see the different games they made for kids.
Playground equipment: If you have enough space in your venue and you can afford it, why not rent playground equipment for your kid’s party? Children absolutely love swings, slides, and see-saws. Search the Web for companies that offer playground equipment rental. Make sure that their equipment is safe, to prevent injuries during the party.
Painting contest: If your child loves art, consider having a painting contest during the party. First, provide the kids with sheets of paper and paint. Next, choose a category and ask them to paint anything that’s related to that category: for instance, animals. You may provide them with paintbrushes or let them do the painting with their hands and fingers. Make sure that parents are supervising their children so no one puts paint into their mouth. Ask your child to choose the winner, then award the prize.
Food for Your Kid’s Birthday Bash
Kids can easily lose their interest in food when there are so many other fun things to do at a party. For this reason, you must keep the menu kid-friendly. Here are some foods that children will surely love:
Pizza: Children love pizza because it’s tasty and easy to eat. You can make your own pizza at home or order from a fast food restaurant.
Spaghetti: Kids also love spaghetti because it’s rich in flavor and they can play with the noodles. Don’t put too much spaghetti on their plates though, because they might just play with it. (Learn how to cook spaghetti squash)

Hot dogs: Some kids refuse to eat heavier foods, but most of them will settle for hot dogs. Serve hot dogs on each table and let the kids eat them to their hearts’ content.
Muffins and cookies: Kids who don’t want to touch anything might go for sweet treats like muffins and cookies. You can bake these foods yourself or order them from a restaurant.

Ice cream: Serve ice cream after the children have eaten the main course. Flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, and chocolate chip are guaranteed to make kids crave for more.
Birthday cake: The birthday cake should fit the theme of the party; for instance, a Little Mermaid party should have figures of Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder and Prince Eric on the birthday cake. Gather up the children in a circle and sing “Happy Birthday” to your child. After he blows the candle, cut up the cake and serve them to guests.
Make your kid’s birthday party as memorable as possible by planning everything thoroughly. Don’t hesitate to shell out more money for you child’s happiness. This event only happens once a year, so do everything to make it a very special day.
