King and Queen of the Jungle party is the perfect party to throw if you’re looking for a wild time. It’s also a great theme if you love animals, nature or if you just want to do something different for your party. At the end of the night, you’ll surely find the perfect king and queen to rule over the jungle kingdom. Here’s how you can put together this party.

Roaring Invitations

Use different animal prints for a true jungle-themed party invitation. You can choose from a lot of animals; leopards, zebras and giraffes are great and exotic prints. You can also use jungle scenes, either actual jungle pictures of the world’s most exotic flora and fauna, or stylized ones, like cartoon lions, panthers and monkeys. Don’t forget that you’re on the lookout for the king and queen of the jungle, so make sure you include two crowns in the design.

Another idea is to print out the images of the original king and queen of the jungle: Tarzan and Jane. You can also use the beloved characters from the Jungle Book. Have leaf shapes, vine shapes and other designs trailing all over the invitation card and envelope. Use lots of green and splashes of color for a real jungle feel.

How do you make the most civilized of homes and party halls look like a real jungle? First, you need a lot of green. Cover your furniture and appliances with green cloth or jungle-green upholstery. Accent the green with animal pattern throw pillows. The same idea can also work for your tables. Use green tablecloths and animal-print paper cups and plates.

Replace some of your light bulbs with green ones, so everything will have a greenish tinge. Your local party supplies store will most likely have leaf-shaped banderitas, which you can string up all along your party space. The majority of your balloons and streamers must be in varying shades of blue, but you can give them punches of color like yellow and orange, to give the feeling of tropical flowers. If you can find them, leaf-shaped balloons can be a real quirky addition to your decorations.

Speaking of tropical flowers, you should use tropical arrangements with bougainvillea, anthuriums and calla lilies, for your table centerpieces. If you don’t want to spend too much money on flowers, using crepe paper is a great way to make paper bougainvilleas. All you have to do is get a long piece of crepe paper and arrange it like a rose. Tape it in place or staple it. Arrange these crepe paper blooms in corners of your house and as decoration for your ceilings.

If you have a closet full of animal plush stuffed toys, now is their moment to shine! Arrange them in bunches or singularly posed around the room. Hang up the bird and monkey toys from makeshift branches. Other animals should also be posed as natural as can be.

If you have potted plants, it’s a good idea to bring them in on the day of the party as natural decorations. Hang up trailing paper vines, stuffed animals, and other jungle things to improve their effect.

Wild Games and Activities

Guests will certainly go ape with the fun games and activities you have lined up. They’re also very enjoyable for both kids and adults, although of course you have to be a little careful with the more active games.

  • Catch a Tiger By Its Tail. The guests all sit around in a circle. One of the guests will be assigned as the Tiger with a long felt tail hidden under his clothes. The Tiger will then go around the circle, touching the other players’ heads and saying Tiger. However, if the Tiger decides he wants to shake things up, he can say “Hyena”. The Hyena will then try to catch the tail of the Tiger while the Tiger tries to get the spot of the Hyena. If the Tiger is successful, the Hyena will take his place and the whole process begins again.
  • Crocodile River. Divide your teams into two or three groups. Make an obstacle course in your background comprising tires, hula hoops, balloons, balls and tables. Put some inflatable or toy crocodiles outside the obstacles. Each team must cross the river, escape the crocodiles and go back to the starting point, where the next player in line must do the same. The team who finishes the relay back and forth in the shortest time, wins.
  • Yell Like Tarzan. We’ve all seen the Tarzan movies, and now it’s time to try out what its like to be him. Ask your participants to give their best Tarzan cry, and a panel of Tarzan judges will decide who makes the best cry.
  • Jungle Hunting. This is a great game for your guests who love collecting stuffed animals. Before the party, buy stuffed plush animals in bulk and hide them in different places in your house. Your guests will then hunt for them, and get to keep their loot.
  • Lions and Monkeys. At the start of the game, one guest will be assigned as the Lion, while the rest of the guests will be Monkeys. The Lion will run around trying to catch Monkeys. Once the Lion has tagged or caught a Monkey, the Monkey will link arms with him or her and help catch the other Monkeys.
  • Safari Strip. Divide the guests into two teams and have them line up. On the far side of the room, there will be two sets of safari uniforms. On the word “go”, the first in line must race up to the uniforms, put it on, run back to the line and run back to the far end of the room to take it off. This will go on until the last person in line has done the same. The first team who finishes wins.

Once the activities are over, you can announce the King and Queen of the jungle. You can vote based on different criteria, but mostly the male and female with the best jungle costume wins the title.

Adventurous Food Ideas

A jungle theme party should never be without fresh fruit and vegetables. Garden salad can be served with a variety of dressings and fruit salads should be served refreshingly cold. Here are other things your guests can munch on a jungle theme party.

  • Animal Shapes. Use animal-shaped cookie cutters to cut biscuits and sandwiches into a theme-appropriate addition to your buffet table.
  • Bugs and Dirt. Serve chocolate cake with roughly chopped chocolate bits and crushed chocolate chip cookies. On top of this cake, put gummy worms or clean bug toys to make it look like authentic, yet delicious, dirt. (Tips on how to bake a chocolate cake)
  • Crema de Fruta. Bake a layer of sponge cake on a rectangular baking pan. On top of the cake, put a thin layer of cream followed by a layer of gelatin and fruit. Chill until it’s ready to be served.
  • Minty Ice. This is a very pretty idea and it gives any drink a refreshing twist. The night before the party, put a single leaf of mint in every ice cube square before putting in the freezer. Drop into your drinks and enjoy.

Animal antics are always welcome in a king and queen of the jungle theme party. Set your inner Tarzan and Jane free and party, party party!
