Oktoberfest Party Ideas

Invites: All for Beer and Beer for All
The invite is crucial in an Oktoberfest-themed party. You have to remind everyone that beer is the beverage of choice for the celebration. Style the invite with beer mugs, beer bottles or beer cans, so the guests can prepare their stomachs for much beer-swilling.
- Beer Mug – The beer mug is the favorite theme for the Oktoberfest. Pictures of beer bottles are okay, but an image of a mug filled with foamy beer simply hits the spot. Grace the cover of your invitation with such a picture and those invited will surely salivate the moment they receive the invite.
- Beer Bottle – The beer bottle is a symbol of an enjoyable weekend. Mark your invitation with the bottle of a popular beer brand. Your invitation’s recipients will think of your party as the ultimate weekend, since they will be reunited with their favorite beverage. Be sure to have an overflowing supply of beer during the party to keep your beer-loving buddies satisfied.
- Beer Can – Beer cans, especially six packs, are good reasons for beer drinkers to stay home and watch sports games. Why not bring the entire party home by designing your invitation with a beer can? Sunday slackers, sports fans and those who know how to have a good time will be enticed by the can’s connotations.
- Pub Photos – Without the pub, beer will just be a regular alcoholic beverage. The pub is more of a congregation rather than an establishment. Inside the bar, beer drinkers unite and party until the wee hours as they chug down countless bottles of beer. You can remind your colleagues and buddies of the beer-guzzling fun attached to those establishments by making a pub-based invitation.

Venue: The Open Bar
The venue for Oktoberfest parties have several requirements:
- a dance floor
- big enough to fit crowds of sitting and dancing people
- many electrical outlets for the DJ’s booth and sound equipment
- a stage for the emcee and the participants of the wet t-shirt contest

If you have a hard time setting up all the necessary equipment, you can just go to a nightclub and rent it for the night. It may be expensive but you will be free of hassles before and during the party.
Food and Beverages: Beer There, Done That
Since beer is the primary beverage in an Oktoberfest celebration, your food should go well with the drink. Think of your favorite bar chow and Mexican food. Those dishes may be simple, but their flavors are greatly enhanced by beer. You must also serve juice and soda for those who can’t consume large amounts of alcohol.
- Beer – Your party can never be called an Oktoberfest celebration without the main protagonist – beer. Purchase cases or kegs of beer to please all of your guests. Some people adore light beer, while others drink dark beer, so you should buy various types. The point of the party is to recreate the seemingly unending supply of beer of the real Oktoberfest.
- Non-Alcoholic Beverages – Not everyone can last one entire night drinking beer. For non-alcoholics, you should serve the usual dinner beverages. Purchase bottles of soda, iced tea and juice to cater to these people.
- Nachos – Nachos and beer are best described as partners. The bitter taste of beer magically blends with the sweet and sometimes spicy Mexican dish. Ideally, several tortilla pieces should be coupled with a sip of beer. You will then be surprised that you have practically finished the entire plate after drinking only a few bottles.
- Cheese and Cheese-Based Dishes – Cheese normally goes well with wine. Try partnering it with beer and you will be surprised. The sweet and sour flavor of cheese blends with beer to create a lovely mixture. Remarkably, melted cheese even mixes better. Be sure to serve cheese sticks, cheesecakes, cheese-based pasta and soups with cheese grates on your party.
- Smoked and Fried Dishes – For some reason, smoked and fried dishes are good companions for beer. Most restaurants and bars offer fried cuisines to complete beer-inspired meals. You can follow suit and serve fried or smoked dishes. Some popular cuisines are smoked fish, fried chicken, chicken fingers, and fish and chips.

Activities: Dance, Wrestle and Guzzle
After preparing the food and the invitation, your next objective is to plan the activities. Beer is known to make people total extroverts after downing a few bottles. As the party planner, you should take advantage of that characteristic in your party’s list of activities.
- Beer Drinking Contest – A beer celebration can never be complete without a beer drinking contest. Select at least five participants from the crowd and the person who finishes a bottle of beer the fastest wins. Level the playing field by holding a separate event for men and women, since men normally are stronger beer drinkers. The winners will get a six pack or any equally enticing prize.
- Mud Wrestling – Beer makes people a little crazier. One event that typifies that claim is mud wrestling. Arrange a pool of mud in a visible area of the venue. Pick the prettiest game women as participants, then watch them tumble around in the mud pool. All of the guys will be happy spectators as they watch their crushes get down and dirty, literally.
- Wet T-Shirt Contest – A wet t-shirt contest entails much courage, since the participants will practically show some skin to the crowd. Beer will of course play a major role in making the ladies lose their inhibitions and significant amounts of rationality. When the people are somewhat tipsy, you can hold the contest. Everyone will then see some of the greatest places on Earth not found on postcards.
- Live Band – Beer is a necessity for rock concerts, since the alcohol’s jolting effect can power people for much headbanging. Hire a popular rock band like the Foo Fighters, Muse or Red Chili Peppers. As the bands perform their anthems, the crowd will instantly be energized.
- Dance, Dance, Dance! – Hire a good DJ to play hip-hop and house music. Cue the DJ to play the grooviest tunes around midnight, when most of the activities are over. Watch the place turn into one huge dance floor as the people bump and grind to their favorite dance hits.
- Beer Pong This is also a good game to play, for tips, read how to play beer pong.

Word of Advice: Control the Alcohol
Now that your Oktoberfest party is all set, you have one last reminder to follow. Violence is always a possibility in a room filled with tipsy and drunk people. Advise everyone, during the event, that violence has no place in your party. Warn them that the festivities will stop the moment you see someone picking fights (Learn the 11 ways to avoid a fistfight). Oktoberfest celebrations are usually out of control and that is something that you don’t have the luxury of applying in your party.
