1st Birthday Party Snacks
For any parent, it’s always wonderful to celebrate their child’s first birthday with a wonderful party. Even if the baby doesn’t understand the occasion yet, it’s sure to be a fun time for him or her. First birthday parties can be either formal or casual. They are usually held in the morning or afternoon.
There are tons of important things to remember when holding a child’s first birthday party. One of the most crucial aspects would be the party food. Unless they have the food catered, many parents find this a very difficult hassle to deal with. It’s because they know they have to cater to two different kinds of people during the party, the kids and the grownups. These two have different food choices, so you can’t serve the same kind of food for these two.
There’s one simple trick you should keep in mind when dealing with this party aspect: keep it simple. With the numerous factors you have to keep in mind during the celebration, it would be really difficult to prepare homemade gourmet dishes. Here are some pointers to remember.
Prepare The Baby Snacks.
If your child’s only a year old, chances are the guests are of the same age or just a bit older. You should get simple but yummy baby-friendly snacks. Crackers, dry cereals and apple sauce are good choices. Other options you can get are:
- Cookies or sweet animal crackers
- Sliced fruit
- Macaroni and cheese (put these in easy-to-hold plastic containers)
- Pudding
- Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
- Pretzels
These are great baby party food choices because they don’t make a lot of mess, and they also don’t take up a lot preparation time.
Prepare The Adult Spread.
Just because it’s for adults doesn’t mean it has to be elegant or extravagant. You also have to remember that the grownups would probably be too busy watching over their children to do some real eating, so easy-to-eat finger foods are more appropriate. Veggies and dip, cheese sticks, nachos and mini-pizzas are good choices.
Other food options include:
- Finger sandwiches
- Chicken drumsticks
- Vegetable hummus and crackers
These food are ideal, especially because the party is most likely held in the afternoon, just after lunch and a few hours before dinner. The guests won’t go hungry during the party, but they won’t be too full either.
Drinks Are Also Important.
Prepare fruit juices and chocolate milk for the kids. Soda and punch are great for adults, as well as coffee and tea are also good choices. Place the kids’ drinks inside tippy cups or baby bottles, to prevent spilling accidents.
Don’t Forget Dessert!
Adults and kids love sweets. Make sure you have ice cream, sherbet and the traditional “Happy 1st Birthday” cake at the party. Yogurt is also a healthy and yummy choice. If you want less mess, you can also opt for cupcakes instead of regular cakes.
Make your kid’s first birthday more special with these yummy birthday treats. Everyone will find these scrumptious and enjoyable!

Hi, is it okay to give the kids soft drinks or sodas, or should I just stick to chocolate drinks? Also, I am quite hesitant on having alcoholic drinks for the adults because its a baby party however I don’t want to deny them alcohol if they want. Should I have alcoholic drinks too?
