Harry Potter Birthday Party Ideas
By Angelo
For a child, every birthday party is a magical. There’s nothing like having a fun-filled day with their closest friends, enjoying games and when it comes to this celebration, nothing more wonderful than having a magical. theme for the occasion. Of course, when you say “magic” the first thought that will enter many kids’ minds would be Harry Potter, the most popular boy in the wizarding world! Since everyone is very familiar with him and his story, why not have a Harry Potter theme for the party? It’s a wonderful theme every kid will love!
To help you with this theme, here are several fun suggestions you can use.
Invitations
Well, you can’t have owls delivering the invitations, but you can make the same invitations as those in the film! Just get some light yellow parchment paper, and handwrite the details on it. Then, tie some raffia or a red ribbon around the invites. The children will feel as if they’ve received Hogwarts letters!
Decorations
Put up life-sized cutouts of Harry Potter characters, including Harry, Hermione, Ron, Draco, Snape, Dumbledore, McGonagall and Hagrid. If you’re creative enough, you can also put up a backdrop with an image of the Hogwarts castle on it.
For the tables, use stuffed animals and hardbound books as centerpieces. You can also name each table after a place in the book, such as Hogwarts, The Forbidden Forest, Diagon Alley, Number Four Privet Drive, Gringotts and the Shrieking Shack.
Party Food
Serve yummy goodies like those in the book, such as Bertie Botts’ Every Flavor Beans (Jellybeans), Cauldron cakes (pumpkin cakes), Peppermint humbugs (peppermint candies) and chocolate frogs (frog-shaped chocolate cookies). Use plastic cauldrons to serve these yummy items. For the drinks, serve a variety of “magic potions” (different colored juices) and put them inside plastic goblets.
Party Games
To let the kids feel the “magic” of Harry Potter, they can play a fun version of Quidditch (on land of course). You can also have a Bertie Botts’ Bean flavor tasting contest. Another enjoyable activity would be to make magic potions and their own wizard capes, wands and magician caps.
If everyone gets tired from all the games, you can also have a Harry Potter movie marathon. A trivia guessing game would also be a fun idea.
Party Favors
Don’t let everyone leave without remembrance of their magical day! Give out Harry Potter coloring books, stickers and Hogwarts goody bags to the guests. Harry Potter glasses and wands would also be fun giveaways.
Let your kid and his or her friends experience a wonderful Harry Potter party! This magical theme would bring lots of fun to any birthday celebration!

The Harry Potter birthday bash I gave to my youngest daughter was topped by a stage magician who wore a Dumbledore outfit. It was the highlight of the show and needless to say, everyone loved it.

Do you have any suggestions on how I can make Bertie Botts’ Every Flavor Beans? Isn’t it impossible to have some of the weirder flavors? I also would like to learn how to make chocolate frogs.
